Task 1.4 Model infrastructure development towards pre-operational prediction system
One of Coming Decade's goals is to transfer all promising developments into routine operational provision of decadal forecasts at the facilitator DWD and to expand the range of climate services in the field of decadal climate forecasts for users with new and relevant products. Thus, all promising developments of the prediction system (WP1) itself and the user-relevant processing (WP2) will be incorporated into the pre-operational system. Therefore, the work in Coming Decade needs dedicated support for model infrastructure development, data management and ICON interfaces for the joint evaluation and operationalization strategy. In close cooperation with the ICON-Consortium and following the decadal climate prediction project (DCPP; Boer et al. 2016) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Global Producing Centre for Annual to Decadal Climate Predictions (GPC ADCP) protocol, the hindcast simulations by Task 1.3 will be standardised and prepared for post-processing, evaluation and communication. Handling of the different timesteps, variables, grids, and regional subsets will be taken into account to be compared with DCPP, but also predecessor projects like MiKlip. This will be achieved via the main evaluation platform built into Task 1.5. Following FAIR (findability, accessibility, interoperability, reusability) data principles, a data management plan will be set up and applied by the Coming Decade consortium.
